what is kimono?

kimono is a network service monitor similar to sysmon. it aims to monitor services to such an extend that the administrator can be certain of its function, and in case of failure alert in a number of ways. it stores all data (by default) in an SQL database. the data is collected through a daemon.

the code is object-oriented and built to be extended by anyone who wishes to develop their own service monitor. the neccesary functions (data loading and saving for example) is abstracted to enable developers to write their own implementations.

how much does it cost?

kimono is released under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2 and the sourcecode is available to anyone to use, extend and re-distribute in any way they want (within the frames of the license of course).

what services are available for monitoring?

Ping, HTTP, FTP, LDAP, MySQL, PostgreSQL, SMTP, IMAP4, POP3, NNTP, SMTP, Firebird/Interbase, Microsoft SQL Server, SSH, generic sockets, external application execution.

More services will be added eventually and it's simple for anyone with basic PHP knowledge to write their own, there's no need to know how kimono works internally.
